Eddie Hearn has tweeted it.

must be an injury that'll keep him out for while - he seemd bang up for the rematch. i'd actually back him to win, he should have won the first fight.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing
Wladimir Klitschko has decided to retire from boxing, rendering a potential rematch with Anthony Joshua moot.
The Ukrainian was defeated by Joshua in a heavyweight blockbuster back in April and the Brit was eyeing another colossal bout in Las Vegas on November 11.
But the 41-year-old has decided to call time on his 21-year career, ending any talk of another showdown with AJ.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing
Thank fuck for that. I think the re-match would have been a huge mistake and public interest quite muted. There was never any point in the re-match and I think it would've put AJ's career on hold for the best part of 6 months.

AJ defeated him and should now be looking onwards and upwards; not at the same horizon he's been at.

A new contender to AJ will create much more public interest and be much more positive for AJ's career. If he had fought Klitschko again and beaten him again.... It would've been a great achievement but there would've been a feeling of "Oh, he's beaten him again.... Big deal".

AJ needs newer, fresher and bigger contenders than Klitschko now if he is to continue his upward trend to being one of the greats.

If The Klit really thought that he could win a return he would be training intensively right now.

That's a shame. I was looking forward to a rematch.

He'll, rightly IMO, be remembered as one of the greats with his record. It wasn't his fault the heavyweight division was weak during his time.

I'm sure there's loads who know little about boxing who'll be glad about this though.

Even if he's injured?

Re: Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing
which new contender will create more interest Russ?

Parker? nope
Wilder? Nope
Pulev who was the name being bandied around? nope

maybe Haye or Fury but that's not happening

Re: Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing
rematch would make perfect sense as aside from maybe Wilder, Wlad is still the best out there.
if he'd stepped on the gas in the first fight he'd have knocked AJ out.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing
Fury isnt an option as he is clearly mental.
Haye lost to a cruiserweight.

He should have won the first? Sorry, do what?

Re: Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing
There is no fight bigger than this for Joshua. As long as he keeps himself motivated he should see off Pulev, Parker and Wilder no problem.

The division really needs Fury to sort himself out.

Can you imagine if it was Vitali who was the younger brother?

He'd have beaten Joshua inside 2 rounds.

Also, Daniel Dubois will be king of the division in a few years time.

Joshua is better in my opinion. It will be between the two.

I agree with this. I think the public will buy into a fight against Wilder and it will also bring Fury out of retirement again!

There's a chance I reckon that Haye will be allowed to bypass Bellew as gate keeper, to keep AJ going and interest in the division, because he's now the most marketable face of worldwide boxing.

Too early to say for me, the same with the likes of Lawrence Okolie. Great there's a handful of British Heavyweights coming through, but they've some steps to make before they'll be able to share a ring with AJ.
